How To Build Your Own Mac-Aquarium
If you're looking for a cool idea for a fish tank and you happen to be an Apple fan, then the MacAquarium is the one for you. It's made from an iMac G3 and you'll probably get only about 3 gallons worth of space in it so it's a great idea for a nano-tank.
If you're interested, you can buy a MacAquarium for $250 or you can buy the kits to make your own for $175 (although it'll take some know-how and safety measure to properly take apart the iMac).

Is The Cyclop Shark Real?
If you haven't heard about it already, there's the Cyclop shark making it's round in the news and on blogs. But just incase you didn't hear about it, I wanted to show you the picture of the cyclop shark. It's eerie but at the same time pretty awesome.
Unfortunately Cyclops was found by commercial fishermen who caught the pregnant dusky shark off the Gulf Of California. The shark researchers examined it and found it to be a functional eyeball but it was unlikely to survive outside the womb.
The fisherman who caught it...

It’s A Half-Plant, Half-Animal…It’s A Sea Slug!
Some of you might have seen this already but how cool is this. It's the first sea slug or critter ever discovered to produce chlorophyll. This particular sea slug can now substain itself via photosynthesis...which is what plants use to convert sunlight into energy. SUPER COOL. What's even cooler is that the picture of it. Usually the first thing I think of when I think of slugs is something slow but the picture of this one looks like it's flying through water. Like a Super-Slug.
"We collect them and we keep them in aquaria...

See-Through Goldfish
It's a few days late as I'm sure some of you saw this already but I thought it was cool enough to share here. Japanese researchers have developed a see-through goldfish where you can see the beating heart through the translucent scales and skin. At first I wasn't sure exactly why they had to do this but this research can help eliminate the need for dissections of animals specially in schools.
"You can see a live heart and other organs because the scales and skin have no pigments," said Yutaka Tamaru, an associate professor...

Not Your Typical Fish Tank Anymore
A few days ago, I came across this article in the LA Times that focused on the growing trend of aquascaping your aquarium. Ofcourse they mentioned Takashi Amano (to which I have a fond connection toward). It's a really interesting article that you should read if you have the chance.
It focuses on a store in San Francisco called Aqua Forest Aquarium and how the owners (George & Steven Lo) have found a special niche by creating natural replicas of miniature underwater worlds. Some of the creations are just amazing. Next...

As Seen On: Freshwater Aquarium Problem Solver
I received an email from a new member today (Brenda B) about how she found MyFishTank.Net through a book she found at her LFS. A book? I didn't know MFT was in any book. So I asked her for more information and she told me it was this book by David E. Boruchowitz called Freshwater Aquarium Problem Solver. So I looked around and found it on Amazon.
Freshwater Aquarium Problem Solver
Use this as your troubleshooting companion to address a range of both common and infrequent freshwater aquarium needs, from keeping the water...

Kuroshio Sea – One Big Fish Tank
I love aquariums and this one I will have to visit next time I'm in Japan. It's located in the Churaumi Aquarium in Okinawa, Japan. It's so big that they call this aquarium/tank the Kuroshio Sea.
How Big? How about FOUR whale sharks. FOUR!!!! Not only just whale sharks, there's a lot of other types of fish such as manta rays, tunas that total about 80 species combined. Amazing. To add to the amazement, only 3 tanks in the world are able to hold whale sharks and this one can hold 4.
The thing I like is instead of just throwing...

Jellyfish Crop Circle
The best crop circle I've seen! Usually they're weird shapes and this time, the latest crop circle looks like a jellyfish! It's about 660ft and it's near Coombes, Oxfordshire..where a lot of other crop circles have turned up. Most crop circles are smaller than this one so this makes it pretty impressive. What do you think? Done by people with computers and volunteers? Or by jellyfish like aliens? Read More →
