$80,000 Arowana Aquarium Fish

arrowana-mostexpensive.jpg

Arowana command a high price with some even being "tagged" with an ID chip to prove authenticity. I've seen arowana being sold for a few thousand to even to the price of a small car. But this one is the most expensive fish I have ever seen....and being a fish lover, it's worth every penny...that i don't have.

One of the most photographed fish at Aquarama 2007 is also one of the show's most expensive - a platinum arowana with a mortgage-inducing price tag. The fish is an Osteoglossum species from South America, rather than the usual Scleropages from Asia, and is owned by Singapore-based Dragon fish breeder Aro Dynasty.

Unlike most Osteoglossum, this mutant is virtually white with virtually no other colours present, not even on the dorsal surface. It was recently offered for sale to prospective buyers by a UK arowana importer for more than £200,000.However, Aro Dynasty told Practical Fishkeeping Online that the fish is no longer on the market. It confirmed that it turned down S$80,000/£26,376 for the fish a few years ago.

This unusual colour variant appears to crop-up only very rarely, and as Arowanas are considered lucky in the Far East, the fish has a correspondingly large price tag. The fish measures around 40cm/15" in length, and looks stunning. It does have one minor flaw, though. The fish's right eye is starting to look downwards.

This is said to be a common defect in captive arowana and is believed to stem from their feeding mode in captivity, where food tends to drop past them. In the wild, they normally leap from the water to catch their food. One trade visitor told us that some arowana keepers are now resorting to cosmetic veterinary surgery for their fish to correct the problem if it arises.

I’m an owner of a pearl 18″ jar. But he is mostly golden pearl with a cross back hump and he or she is been in my 6′ 150gal. Aquarium for two years and I’ve been feeding him four kinds of food .the fish is spoiled now so I have to feed the super worms hikari arow color enhancing sticks, but he mostly eats shrimp larger than cocktail about four a day then treats.but I’m just looking to see if I’m interested in selling him to an avid collector and a bigger aquatic habitat maybe five hundred gallons ….I’d sell him for twenty two hundred$ A special fish he is and very interactive you will love too see this guy eat out my hands……but he doesn’t like other fish ,the poor 2placos plus their 2feet long…..well if you’re a collector you can’t meet this criteria it’s no fish for you…..I’m taking offers for him ,it’s important that he has a better place for his spirituallality is remarkable and if he looks to me weird as a sign its not to be ……..such a person to own him must be interviewed! I’d rather donate him to the aquarium than have him mistreated money isn’t as important as prosperity in this fish has all…chipnathan@gmail.com. Only serious inquiries please!

Thats crazy how much that Arowana Cost! I had no idea these fish could cost this much and be such a value to aquarium owners. I’m looking at buying my first arowana but don’t really know what species to buy so I’m a bit concerned. I’m doing some research on what a good species is for a beginner with a 125 gallon aquarium. This post really made me want an Aro that much more HAHA
