Lets see,

I am 34 years old married with a 7 years old daughter. I am working as a Transportation Permit Specialist I, which means that I issue oversize/overweight permits to truck drivers and tell them where they can or cannot go.

I have been in this hobby off and on for years, and just recently got a wish for a 55 gal tank, which I have been waiting on for over 20 years........
Now the fun part......stocking and aquascaping....

I'm 21, and the brother of slacker88313. I'm currently tired of looking for a "real" job in Florence (as the joke goes over here, the only places that are hiring are the restaurants, and they aren't hiring) so I'm looking into some coop jobs in Huntsville. I'm a senior with hopefully no more than four semesters to go (counting this one) majoring in computer science.

...let's see, what else...

<rant>I totally suck at programming in assembly languages. Give me a high-level language any day! I mean, seriously, you know it's archaic when the textbook comes with A FREAKING 5 1/4 INCH FLOPPY! I haven't even seen one of those drives in about 5 years, not even in any of my multiple boxes of random computer junk.</rant>

Lol also, I want to punch bad drivers in the face. Hard.

Assembler? Archaic?

High level is fine for 95% of what you might have to do, but every once in a while, you need to squeeze that extra little bit of performance out, and that's where it's very handy to play at a much lower level.

Far from archaic my friend, you'll find many cutting edge pieces of software were written partially at a very low level.

Haha no I meant the assembler we're using is archaic...we're programming for an IBM S/360. Our school has an IBM Multiprise 3000, but for whatever reason we're using an emulator for a much older mainframe. I like high-lever better though, because it just seems easier to me to make things work and to debug a high-level program.

Could be worse, though, right? She could make us do it all in 10000010 10001001 10010101 10000001 10011001 10101000 ;)

OMG, I thought I was the only one who remembered BASIC. I was in a computer programming competition 2 years in a row in high school (Jr and Sr years). The first year for BASIC and advanced BASIC and the second year for PASCAL. That was back in the early 90's....My teams actually did pretty good both years. My school took 4 teams both years and mine finished the highest of the 4 each year. *PEACE!*

I still use BASIC when writing software for certain embedded systems. BASIC rules!

Assembly is a must with certain microcontrollers or small memory footprint systems, but I'll admit that when I can, I use a compiler. It's just that some stuff you absolutely have to because of the space constraints. However, yes, assembly still sucks...

Back to the original topic, I'm 23 and I'm an electrical engineer. I run a small business which I am a contract EE and do some retail sales of renewable energy supplies. In my free time I enjoy keeping leopard geckos, building DIY projects and playing music in my small home studio. I'm also licensed to fly (private pilot) and scuba dive too, but I don't very often anymore.

Well I think I shall join this party*celebrate

I am 19 (almost 20) and I am currently a third (of four) year student at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON for civil engineering. I want to get into designing buildings and other structures. I fly fish, paintball (love it!), used to play video games 'til I switched to a Mac, I love to make small programs using C.

Last summer I worked with a man who builds dry-stone walls. Very neat stuff. I hope to get an engineering job this summer though.

This is a cool thread. Well, I'm from Elizabethtown, PA (right by Hershey, Harrisburg, and Three Mile Island if that helps). I'm 21 and I'm a senior in college. I'm an Elementary Education and Special Education dual major with a minor in athletic coaching. I've worked as a cook for the past 6 years and when I have free time, I play baseball, keep fish, play World of Warcraft, and chill with friends.

Guess I should join too since I have been hanging out here for about a month now.:p
I am 24 living in southern California. I work for a water agency as a service planner. In short I tell people what they can install, how they can install it, and how much it is going to cost. I have been here for going on 6 months now. Before that I was a draftsman and trainning to be a designer for a private civil engineering firm for about 8 months. And before that I worked at Starbucks for about 5 years (Supervisor). And I have been taking all kinds of crazy classes at a local community college the whole time for apparently no reason.
Lets see I like animals, plants, and my bf who I have been living with for 5 years.
I am the type of person who has big ideas but doesn't know how to get their, and I love learning about anything. So I end doing alot of reasearch and having nothing come of it:D. Thats me in a nut shell //lays on back and puts hand and feet in the air// *laughingc get it?
