    Just Worried

Trent, that's a very small tank for 2 mollies by themselves on top of the fact there's no way this tank is cycled after a week. Establishing a proper nitrogen cycle takes 4-6 weeks on average. You're doing great by having a test kit! Way better than many new to the hobby. Is it possible...

    How to handle emergency situations?

I've had fish from big box type stores go belly up within a day, maybe up to a week from the date of purchase. I hear you. It's frustrating. We have no way of knowing what they've gone through up to the point of being plopped into an overcrowded small sale tank of questionable water quality...

    Gold fish problem

Sounds like a good start! One thing to keep in mind is clean and clear looking water doesn't mean much at all. You need to know the readings for the parameters I mentioned above to help troubleshoot problems with your fish. In the meantime, If your fish is still having issues, and you...

Fish Suddenly Hide - All The Time

I'm not trying to be a snot, but "water is all good" means absolutely nothing without readings in PPM for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. A healthy, established tank should produce nothing but nitrates and we keep them ideally below 20ppm by doing weekly water changes. Just trying to rule...

    Gold fish problem

Do you have a test kit to measure for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? Do you do weekly water changes?

Fish Suddenly Hide - All The Time

Welcome to the site! What's your water change schedule and amount of water changed? Do you have a means to measure for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? We generally try to eliminate a water quality concern first.

    Can't keep constant Temp!!!

200w is a BIG heater for a 20g tank. It depends on how cold the room gets that the tank(s) are in, but I wouldn't use more than 100w in a 20g tank., I use a 200w in my 55g and a 250w in my 75g. That might be part of your problem. 84-86F is pretty warm. You should gear the water temps to...

I'm back and need a refresher.

Good call on the 20 long tank vs. a 20 high! You did great there. Longs are a much more versatile tank because of the bigger footprint and lower height, which is easier for plants (for lighting, etc.). For a natural look, if you've got a Petsmart around you, I've seen a real nice looking...

    HELP Cardinal tetras sick

It's a risk any time a new fish is introduced into a tank. I'd do 50% water changes daily until things improve. For treating ich, I crank up the heat to what the fish in the tank can tolerate to speed the life cycle of the parasite along and do daily water changes.

    Help on Platies?

Yep, even if you were to bring 2 female platys home from a store, often times one or both of them would be pregnant already and that's far too small a tank @ ~6gal. I hear you on the carnival gold fish! I've pleaded with my kids to not do that to me. LOL. I do have a beautiful orange...

    Pleco identification

Good looking little plecos! They're not the basic "common pleco" so that's a great thing. Those can get over a foot long.

    Downlow on Danios

Sumtn' welcome! The danios I've had experience with are zebra danios and celetial pearl danios. Still have them both. Zebras are very hardy fish and are often used to cycle a new tank (establish a proper nitrogen cycle). I keep a group of 4-5 of them in one of my 55g tanks and enjoy them...

    Worst Fish Advice Ever

Whoa.. Dug up an 11yr/old thread here.. Yeah, some sites like mentioned offer a lot of activity, but not all of it is good info.

    Too many cycling fish

Those look to be common goldfish, maybe some comets in there too. 20 of them in a 10g is insane as you've probably read by now. These are pond fish that need large tanks or ponds to thrive. 20 of them in 10g will produce lethal amounts of ammonia in no time in an uncycled tank. How did...

Very quiet here unfortunately. You could always weed thru a lot of hot air at MFK!

    Undergravel filters

I used UGFs 30yrs ago, but I wouldn't even consider one today. Looking back, they really serve no purpose other than *maybe* flowing some water across your substrate to make some nitrifying bacteria happy. Your AC70 HOB is a great amount of filtration for a 29g. Squeeze out the sponge...

    HI

Bam, to me. a 29g is perfect for a pair of fancies. Do a nice fine substrate for them to skim through, or go without substrate even. AC70 is the ideal filter for it too IMO. All I've got currently on my 55g goldfish tank is an AC70 and a large sponge bubbler.

    HI

Welcome Bam. I too prefer fish that face plant the glass when they see you. I get a lot of that with my oscar and severum. My goldies are OK, but a little skittish in comparison. I've also not had great luck with guppies, but I've only kept 2 of them the past 3-4yrs. Both fancy males...

    Algae.... Algae everywhere!

I just wipe the inside of the glass. A big algae problem typically means you have to reduce the amount of time you have your lighting on. On my tanks with plants (freshwater though..), I don't keep my lights on more than 6-8hrs/day.

    Bottom Feeders

Bam, welcome! 66F really isn't that cold. Many tropicals like neon tetras and most danios would thrive at that temperature. In regards to a bottom feeder, emerald corydoras do well at cooler temps. Is your intent to add more fish for activity at the substrate level? There really is no...
