I caught these a while ago and then let them go. They where very friendly, about 3"-4" (one was 1"... very cute ;)) anyone know what kind of newt or salamander they where? They live under rocks and such.

Red Back Salamanders(your ID is right lol).
very nice. I used to catch these by the 30s when I was little, then I would let them go. They used to be so plentiful under the rocks in my area.

I used to even keep one as a pet. from my experience they will eat most insects, larvae, and anything tiny that moves.

they're great little guys. I almost converted my 10 gallon into a habitat for them, but then I didn't. I gave them live bloodworms, earthworms, and sowbugs. I believe the earthworm was the first to disappear.

I kinda wish I did make a habitat for them though.
