Well, it is bad your absolutley right.

But the fish will be stunted anyway.

But I think fish like Pacu's and I.D. Sharks should be banned for sale, and can only be ordered by people that have the capabilties to have such large fish i.e. zoos, public aquariums, and possibly chinese restaurants

I have seen a chinese restaurant that had 5 8" oscars in a 29 gallon tank (how I dont know) and they said they dont clean it out for 3 months..nasty and mean

So whaddya gonna do? The majority of Wal-Mart shoppers are only looking for one thing: low prices. They subconsciously have in their head that fish purchased at wally world will be the best deal (in every sense of the word). Upper management has already done the thinking for them. What's that tell you?

yeah..half the fish at walmart are either sick, dying, or dead..They rarely feed them, so all of their alive tankmates eat the dead fish..they are so lazy they dont even care..I took a dead fish out myself once..and this guy at meijer didnt know the first thing about fish, so he grabbed the smallest net to try to catch a pleco..He couldnt get it, so I did it myself..

I saw two 3 inch oscars in Walmart chewing on a 2.5 inch goldfish...if the poor goldfish wasn't already dead, I would've found someone to put it back with the other goldies. I can't imagine that their customers want their little kids to see a fish getting the guts eaten out of it.

its not fair that these fish must suffer. Have u seen how many they put in one tank. There is about 4 silverdollars and 10 ranibow fish in one of those stupid tanks. then they have 4 oscars and 4 pacus in the same size tank. It is just cruel to the fish. I saw one of the walmart employes saying its ok to put neon tetras with oscars. I said to the guy that was buying them that they would be eaten. walmart is sending these fish to die.

I know Wal-Mart doesn't know their *** from their arm, and they have bad fish departments all around North America, but when you really think about it, is Petsmart not just as bad? Are any of your lps' or lfs' any different? NO they aren't! (with few exceptions)

Actually you are kind right, But the conditions at Petsmart can't be really compared with WalMart.

Its true that sometimes they overcrow some tanks, but at least they are with fish of their same specie with clean water, a substrate and somebody who is dedicated to them ....

Seriosly there's no comparison between them ...

It won't do much good not to buy fish there if you buy tanks, filters, food and everything else from them. The trick would be to boycott them completely and support local businesses where you might possibily have an impact on the way they treat their fish because you get to know the owner/operators...a.k.a. your local LFS.

IMHO

Walmart doesn't care about its staff, why should it care about its fish?

Some Walmarts apparently have decent fish depts., it all depends on the manager.

It's much better to go to your LFS, where at least you might get *some* advice. I know some only have the pet chains. Petco has a hotline to call if you see any poor treatment of animals in its stores, use it as necessary.
