Filter unexpectedly stopped working...

Hi there, I'm new here and need help. My filter was working when we picked up the tank and now it's not. It's not making a noise or anything. It's a 5 gallon tank

Anyone who has ever worked in any type of tech support or repair job knows to check the easiest things first.

Make sure it's plugged in, make sure the outlet works by plugging in another known working device like a nightlight or something.

No noise either means no power or the impeler isn't turning. If it has electricity, check the impeller. Sometimes they just need to be taken out and seated back down.

Hello; Bits of gravel, snails or other debris can get into the cavity where the impeller assembly fits and stall it.

When I disassemble my HOB (hang-on-back) filter, sometimes it won't work when I reassemble it unless I clean out the impeller first - I use a Q-tip.

That's my honest answer. Once, my tank light, filters, and air stone all turned off. I realized that the surge strip came out of the socket, so yeah. It could happen.

mabye its when u plug it in you have to dump water into the filter to get it started .. mabye that will help *twirlysmi
