I think I am just destined to not keep goldfish or something. I have the worst luck with them. The latest issue I have is with my big goldfish. I noticed this red mark on his body. I'm assuming he somehow touched the heater and got burnt. Does that look like a burn mark? Or is it something else?

What is the purpose of having a heater in a tank for goldfish? They are a cold water fish are they not?
the room it’s in…it gets really cold. like wearing a beanie and snow jacket cold.
actually it’s warmer OUTSIDE than inside most of the time. hence the need for the heater.
I’ve never heard of a fish getting burned by a heater before. The goldfish would have had to be in contact with the heater for quite awhile to get that kind of burn. Looks odd though, don’t know what it could be.
I actually just lost a Cory to a heater. She managed to get herself dovetailed between it and the glass. Happened overnight, so I had no idea of how long she had been there. She was a fighter though, and even though she had burns on a good 40-45 percent of her, she tried fighting to get better. I finally had to freeze her two days later.
the mark is now gone. really odd. but at least it disappeared.
i had a plecy that used to attack my goldfish and suck parts of their scales off their skin. gross, yes. fact, yes. did i get rid of the plecy? yes.
The goldfish may have been burned by the heater but what it looks like is secondary bacterial infection. From the goldfish picture it almost looks like an ulcer forming. I see that its now gone as you mentioned but thats what it looked like. The thing with goldfish they can injure themselves on various aquarium decorations or equipment. The good thing is that sometimes goldfish heal on their own, its not common but sometimes they do. Do you put aquarium salt in your water on regular basis when performing maintenance on your aquarium if you do salt is a good way at keeping goldfish health in good condition. Highly recommended as form of treatment instead of using goldfish medications. Sometimes salt will do the trick all by itself. Glad your goldfish got better
Yeah sometimes fish can be aggressive and hurt other fish. I know I have koi and I mix them with goldfish in ponds and aquariums which is okay to do as both coldwater fish. What my koi used to do is injure my goldfish, they sometimes suck the eye balls right off them. Especially if the koi are bigger. Pretty sick eh, now I have one eyed goldfish. Pirate goldfish I’ll have to get them a patch now
i agree it does look like a parasite.i had a goldfish like that and it formed the same mark.it may be the nitrates or something.what gallon do you have???
