My 29 Gallon Planted Freshwater Tank

MsDannielle.com sent me a nice email about our site here and she mentioned she has a 30 gallon fish tank also (did you join our forum yet?). So it reminded me about my own 29 gallon (yes..1 gallon smaller) and so i went and found some old pictures of my 29 gallon planted freshwater tank.

This was really my first “real” tank that i set up. At that time, I was really mesmorized by Takashi Amano Planted Tanks and I actually went out and bought all his books. Heck, I even went to Japan and took a bus to his store and then lugged back like 20lbs of rock back to the US!

So anyways, here are some pictures I was able to find. Enjoy!

This was the first layout I did after coming back from Japan. Notice the authentic Amano Co2 parts on the left side of the tank (the bubble counter and the diffuser inside the tank – i could watch the bubbles go through that tube all day long). I started out with some val’s as freshwater plants in the background but they grew way too fast and I was always pruning them. The rock structures inside the tank are the rocks I bought at the Amano store.

Here’s the 2nd version of the tank. I removed the val’s and introduced a new plant to the tank (and as of right now, i can’t remember the name of it – no it’s not riccia). I just remembered that if you give it enough light and c02, it’ll grow horizontally instead of vertically. So with a bit of tuning to find the right amount of c02, i had my green carpet that i always wanted in my tank.

here’s a shot of the tank from the top. 100% coverage! yea! then i realized…how am i going to prune it? would it all start to grow on top of each other and then i would have a layered tank?

Check that out! black hood, black background, black stand. black is back baby! the full tank shot. I still have all the parts..maybe one day i will start it up again. one day.
