IMHO all you need for filtration is some good quality Live Rock(10-15lbs.) and some sand/Live Sand. As far as lighting, if you just want fish you would be fine with regular flourescant(sp?) lighting, but once you get the coral bug you wont be able to stop(lol). For LPS(Large Polyped) and Soft Corals power compact lighting will work great. I'd recommend a 96watt power quad, all you have to do is plug it in! Also get a good reference book and keep surfing on the web! nano-reef.com has a forum as well as a great information page, as does this site.
P.S. Nano's aren't that harder to keep, just get a good test kit and make sure you have pristine water quality.
