I am looking for a cichlid that is no more than 1.5 inches max(perferably smaller if poosible).

any suggestions?

I have a spare 5.5gallon tank and would like to keep two very small cichlids in(one male one female). I don't know if this is possible but i had to ask because i don't know much about cichlids.

Sorry PJ I don't know of any cichlids that small. Bummer huh because these are the most interesting fish I've every kept and I'm sorry. However I did just start keeping cichlids a few months ago. you might find out different though.

You could try shell dwellers.  They have a minimum of 5 gallons for a pair.  You have to have a sand substrate, but if you put a stocking or sponge over your intake tube on your filter, that will prevent sand from being drawn into your impeller. They like a temp of 76-79 degrees, and a ph of 7.8-8.6.

Just do a search on shell dwellers.  Lots of available info out there.

Try some rams! Rams are great fish, colorful, and cool looking at that. I'd go for the blue rams, but there are also gold ones out there too...Joe
