Self mutilating banded coral shrimp?

OK, I have a question for those "Shrimp Experts" out there.....
Why would my banded coral shrimp chop off his own claw?
Now I have a " one armed bandit". He appears to be OK
I don't know why he would do this to himself. My opinion that he is a "dumba**"

Well.... not really sure that he did it himself... Ya think that he might have got it caught in something? Or maybe in a crevice?

You'll never really know for sure!

Is it in the tank with any larger crabs like an Emerald or anything...? I have had my crabs get into it with other inhabitants of the tank and sometimes they end up missing a part... but not to worry it should grow back in time!

No just hermits and 1 peppermint shrimp.... he pretty much rules the roost in that tank.

Could have been a "tank match" between the two shrimps... looks like the peppermint took the title.

Like I said, I wouldn't worry should grow back in time.

Expect to lose the peppermint - my CBS is horribly aggressive, including fish twice his size,weight at least.
