Okay, I'm getting started on my sump. Right now it's just going to consist of a plastic trash can until I can get a proper one set up. I have a 1 3/4" hole drilled in my aquarium for the overflow (I still need to build the box around it), and I'm going to be using a RIO 2100 pump to run water from the sump back to the aquarium. I chose such a high flow pump because I will eventually be building a DIY canister filter. After the canister is put in the line, I figure it will give me somewhere in the neighborhood of 200-300 gph.

I've never done any aquarium plumbing before, so can someone give me a run-down on what I'll need (and maybe where to get it)? I want to use clear flexible hose for both overflow and return lines. What size hose should I use for the overflow? The pump outlet is 3/4" I'd also like some kind of nozzle to slow the return in the aquarium, as well as put a check-valve and a ball-valve in the return line.

Thanks so much everyone! You've been a great help for me thus far!
