WOW~! Now that's the way to get into fishies!

You're gonna have a ball here...this is a great site! Just beware, you're gonna want MORE tanks...cos that 150 isn't going to house the multitudes of fish that you will fall in love with.

Oh, the NEED for more tanks is MTS (Multiple/More Tanks Syndrome).

Welcome to the addiction that is fish! say goodbye to your "other life".

Hi sure! I have only been in the fish game for 2 years, but I'll be glad to help Ill list a few pointers below to get you started!

1. Siamese Fighting.  If you plan to have a Siamese Fighting fish, then you can only have one male in any one tank as they will kill one another otherwise these fish are a perfectly good community tank!

2. If you want to experience breeding fish then my advise is to purchase 1 Male Guppy and 2 or three females, however be prepared for a load of fish! they breed like rabbits! (if you want me to go further into breeding the Guppy then let me know.

3. Tiger Barbs are fin nippers! no matter what the books say and how much they say that they are reasonable community fish you can't hide the fact that they are fin nippers I do not reccomend these esspessially if you have or are thinking of keeoing Angelfish!  (this is my experience of these fish! others may have different views on the tiger barbs)

3. Plants. Although this may not be everyfish keepers advise I dont have real plants in my own aquarium, soley because of SNAILS!!! the fish keepers nightmare! they are little devils. Once you get one then you will breed thousands! there is some solution on the market called 'snail away' which is a chemical that is supposed to help with the snail problem.

4. Bottom Feeders. I have two tanks, one of them has a Leapord plec in. He is rather agressive at times. very teritorial! if you have a leapord plec then you can have no other bottom feeders with it as I found out when I added some Corydorus in with him! (eh errr! bad Idea) however they are interesting fish and look nice! These will grow big! the other has a chinese Algea eater who is a total lazy devil! Clean? Huh not him! he is supposed to but he spends most of his life in his retreat!  Cory's are my favorite  bottom feeders. My personal favorite type of cory is a peppered cory, I would advise corydorus for the bottom feeders!

5.Clown Loaches. These fish are prone to whitespot and despite thier growth in size they are a good community fish ok to go with such fish as cardinal tetras etc. One way to reduce the risk of the whitespot is to increace the heat in the tank to 28 degrees.

6.When Buying Fish.

Check that the fish swims effotlessly and maintains position in the water.

Fins of the fish should be errect

If possible check that the fish is eating food readily

check the tank inwhich the fish is in to see if thier is any sign of disease such as whitespot or fin rot

7. ENJOY  enjoy your fish keeping hobby to the full! I have certainly got a load of fun and facination out of fish keeping and I enjoy experimenting with the breeding. At present I have a pair Dwarf Gouramis in a seperate third tank which I hope to breed! I have put my email address below feel free to ask more questions!
