So I had a freshwater tank, but in my last move ~8 months ago the tank broke.

I just inherited 3 saltwater tanks and a bunch of equipment. I plan to go through it all, but 1 standard 10 gallon and 2 bowfronts, maybe 8 gallon?

I was thinking of trying out my first saltwater setup, already read the sticky, lots of useful help their. But I had a question...

The stand I am using has alot of underneath room. Would it be beneficial to me to run a sump setup? I don't know much about them but I understand the concept, and would be cool if I could keep heater/pump hidden in a sump tank and have the sump circulating up with the main tank. Also might be better to be running more water in a smaller area.

also would more live rock be needed?

The sump sure can't hurt, but not essential. Honestly, put together a budget for the set-up, and if you can afford the extra equipment (overflow, pumps, and yes, extra LR) go for the sump. I found some DIY videos on Youtube, so check there if you're going that direction.

And welcome to the tank.
