out of curiosity.. are mollies schooling fish, or can they be alone in a tank?

Well, the mollies can be alone in the tank but, if you want to breed them you would want 2 females per male

no breeding for me, please... i'm **very** green (new) to this hobby, and i wouldn't know what to do with babies... i just think the mollies are very neat looking and would like a male.. i know they're described as brackish fishes, but they'll do ok in a saltless tank, right?

Well for them to be at their peek happiness then you would want them in a brakish tank but they will be fine. What kind of fish are you putting them with? What size is the tank? Thanks. ;D

Yes, it really doesnt matter if you have salt IMO ;D
But, i have been keeping mollies since i was 7 without salt and am now 11 and they are  were thriving hard ;D

Mollies are very prone to types of fungus. Salt helps to prevent it.

I would keep more than one.
