Lettuce in Water

Is it for the infusoria Ray?  That is the only thing I can think of, that as the lettuce leaf starts to rot it produces infusoria that is good for feeding very small fry.  I don't know how to transfer the infusoria to the fry, just that you are supposed to make sure you don't transfer any of the rotting material with the infusoria.

What is the good ol Lettuce in water in sunlight trick good for in terms of feeding fish?

I use this for betta fry. Put a Peice of lettuce in a jar of water and set it in the window (for sunlight). Then when the water is murky take a eyedropper or syringe and remove them and inject into your tank.
