how come my java moss doesn't float on the surface of my water? it hangs around in the middle of the tank.

cuz java moss does not float, it sinks

but in pictures of people's tank that i see...i see them floating

the java moss might just be growing on whatever its floating on.

Java moss will seem to float but it hangs, it should be grown on a piece of wood or rock.
The loose pieces in my tank wind up on the bottom until I snag them and tie them to a rock.

If you're looking for something "mossy" that floats, you could try riccia

SLO-dean how in the world do you feed your ADFs? Its hard enough feeding mine in a 5 gallon...cant imagine a 29. By the way, how do you guys attach the moss to rocks etc. I heard too tight it might die. Im thinking about floating a cork in the middle of it to float it...
