I have a few new hatchet fish - with the dreaded
white spots ( ich) is regular table salt (tbl spoon per 5
gallon good) and water change? I am guessing its
ich, also does raising the temperature help? to rid the
tank of these pests along with water changes?
I have a fluval 204 are there any concerns or
problems with this filter vs. others?
thanks,..

I wouldn't use regular table salt. I saw one place that suggested table salt, but many places (including people here) say not to use table salt and to get some (deionized) Aquarium salt to use instead.

Raising the temperature does help...it helps the ich's life cycle to speed up. You also need to medicate as far as I know, it won't go away on its own. If you don't have any ich meds you can try putting in some hydrogen peroxide, I hear its a less harsh (less effective?) more natural cure for the stuff...haven't tried it but someone suggested it to me.

Dunno about doing water changes...usually do water changes as perscribed by the meds you're using.

Ich

Ok,
I am raising the temp to 83-84 degrees F.
I do have meds such as Kordon Rid Ich plus.
I am a Koi hobbyist and have never had to
deal with this before ( being relativly new to
Tropical fish).

I will change some of the water tomorrow PRN.

Yeah get some medcine ASAP and start treating your tank. Just to make sure ... do the white spots look like little grains of salt on the fish or more like white stuff hanging of the fish? Its best to be sure what the problem is before treating.

Ich I am guessing , I do have a couple of snails
tiny ones that came with the plants that seem
to be laying eggs all over the place ( my pygmy cats)
devour them up-- (most of them that is)
however I am wondeing if
my fluval 204 is overloaded with fungus? with the
eggs? thus the ich or a fungus?
