I wouldn't put salt in a tank with a pleco personally. Many plants do not handle the salt for long, but may tolorate the short-term aquarium salt.

Why did you put fish you knew had ich in your established tank??

I have never used salt for ich. The extra heat is fine. Be sure to vac daily!!!!!! Salts are for ph buffering. DO NOT ADD SALT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A WAY TO CHECK THE pH!!!!! If you feel you must add salt you need to do it a little at a time and check the pH!!!!!! And also, just what OC said???? Ich ridden fish added to you tank??????

I'm new here and while skimming thru threads, saw your post. How did the heat method work out for you? Did you try giving your fish a salt water dip? I've had that work well for me in the past when I couldn't add salt to a planted tank. How fast does the heat method work?
