I would like some info on whether it is possible to put a 50 watt heater in a one gallon container. Most small heaters say "from 5 to 10 gallons". I have put myself in a situation where I have to keep a small container warm enough for a betta on a temporary basis. My sense says if has a thermostat, it should shut off when it reaches the set temp no matter how much water it is in.

Thanks, Kerry! At the moment I have the desk lamp over his little tank and now have the temp up to 74 degrees and he is enjoying his new warmth and space. After all, it is a lot bigger than the little cup he was in - he isn't very big himself either so I don't feel bad about having him in a gallon tank. I just hadn't completely thought things out when I went into Petsmart yesterday and their bettas were on sale for $1.99. I had legitimate space for one, but I bought two and then after I got home realized that second one was probably going to cost me another $15 - $20! lol
