Flourescent Lights

So, I have a hood on my 20G-L that only takes fluorescent lights. The original light that came with the hood gave a nasty purplish glow. I hated that color so I bought a florasun 24" light, and that was purple AS WELL! Third time to the petstore. I looked at the color spectrum of the different lights on the bulbs and- HERP A DERP, They were all purple! So, I'm asking, are all fluorescent lights purple? If yes, then what hoods take incandescent bulbs that can fit on a petsmart 20G-L?
If no, what lights do you recommend? (24")

I would use the 5500K to 8000K if you are looking for daylight type light. I personally like the 10,000K to 18,000K light myself. These have less red spectrum and grow less algae.

Hello; Try Wal-mart for the 24 inch daylight bulbs. I know that they have the 18 inch aquarium bulbs, but have not checked for the 24 inch. I modified a hood to take screw in standard bulbs and used the CFL's in the daylight range with good results.

Daylight as in completely white?
What color is the 10,000K-18,000K range?

Hello; The daylight bulbs (brite white) I use are around 6500k. I do not like the look of cool white. I have not tried the 10,000 k and up range.

Oops, i picked up a 6500K zoo med light and figured out that it was only 17 watts! So im putting out less than 1 wpg! NOT GOOD for my dwarf baby tears. Can anyone recommend to me a 6500K 24" fluorescent light that has at least 2 wpg? (40 watts)

You might have to get a hood with more bulbs. 10,000K and up bulbs are bulbs with less red, they are a bright white but more into the blue spectrum as the 6500K are more in the red spectrum. The 6500K-ish is better for plant life.
