Hello, All.
I am new to myfishtank and am anxious for some help with my dwarf gouramies.

I noticed four days ago that both of dwarf gouramies have shiny bald spots on their sides and one of them has chewed-up looking fins. Thus far, I have dosed the tank with MelaFix and gradually salted (1 tbl/gal) the water.

I have been keeping fish for four months and use Jungle test strips to monitor the water. I have a 36 gallon aquarium and have been replacing 6-7 gallons every five days.

The current water readings are (comparing colors on bottle to stick):
pH Level 7.0
Alkalinity 110
Hardness 150 (very hard)
Nitrite 0
Nigrate 60 - will add Prime to lower
Ammonia 0

My fish family consists of:
. Orange Oranda (1)
. Orange/Black Oranda (1)
. Calico ? (1)
. Black Moor (1)
. Silver Dollars (3)
. Blue Gourami (2)
(Crowded, I know; 3 were rescued.)

I would sincerely appreciate any advise to help my little blue guys.
Sandy

Well to get some things out of the way, goldfish and tropical fish DO NOT belong in the same tank. Tropical fish need warmer water than the Goldies. The silver dollars will grow too large for the tank you have them in, and I believe that the faster schooling silver dollars have nipped your gouramis.

I would suggest that you trade in the silver dollars to your LFS for store credit and get at least a 50 gallon tank for your goldfish. Goldfish need at least 10 gallons PER fish because they have a high bioload. With the remaining Gouramis you could have a nice tropical tank going on in your present tank.
