I want to get a green spotted puffer, and my ph level is about 8. In the tank I want to get some drift wood. I know real drift wood discolors the water for a time and slowly softens the water. I was wondering if I got fake driftwood (plastic stuff) if cleaning it in a brackish tank is any different than in a fresh water one. Any oppinions about what type of driftwood to get would be great.:)

I got some drift wood from the local petco. It is like malaysian drift wood, or something like that. I really don't recall. All I had to do was rinse it off, it sinks right to the bottom, and doesn't leak tannins or soften the water much(as far as my test kit tells me, ph is a steady 7.9-8.0) I'm still not exactly sure the exact type of wood it was, but it is really dark brown, and in the reptile section of the petco I was at.
