I have an African butterfly fish who is quite the picky eater. Right now all he enjoys are bloodworms. I never like to feed my fish one type of food though. The rest of my fish have a more diverse diet than I do. LOL They eat shrimp pellets, veggie wafers, bloodworms, brine shrimp, spinach, turkey heart, etc… Knowing that wild butterfly fish naturally eat flies and other insects that fall on the waters surface I’m tempted to try feeding my little guy store bought crickets. I know that my butterfly fish is always attracted to moving things on the surface of the water… If it’s not moving it can be touching his nose and he won’t notice it. So I’m guessing that these little guys hunt primarily by site…and make little use of their noses. Has anyone tried this in the past? Is it safe to feed fish live food with kicking legs and little pincers?

If anyone has any other suggestions of live foods I could try let me know!!
