Cooling a tank

My ambient room temperature is 78F, but I have a 5 gal hex tank that won't go below 84F. Suggestions on how to bring it down a few degrees ... ?

let em guess...incandescent light? Put a flourescent screw in if u can, move it to a lower place if ur in a house, keep it outta the sun. Thats bought all i can think of

Got the flourescent light, the corner is dark and it's only two feet off of the floor. Next?

Couldalso be the filter motor warming the water - what sort is it? No easy fix for that

I've got two thermometers giving the same reading. It's a Marineland Eclipse-based system (the one they make for Wal-Mart under the "Regent" name) with all the mechanics in the hood.

is it very humid in the house? i dont understand where u can get a 6 degree flux, i have an unheated tank at 81 degrees but my room is humid as hell

crank down dat a/c to bout 70 deg, that will help, den put ice cube inda tank, drop frozens briney shrimps in the cubes befo you freeze and as dey melts in you tank, yous fish have a treat at the same times

you can't fix that one twin your stach.thats the inherent flaw in eclipse tanks.they run real warm.i don't even use heaters in mine

Well, thankfully, the Betta digs it as well as the ADF's. It was the albino cories that I was worried about, but up to now they seem fine.

Hey, Mike, is this hot wind the worst we've had around here in years or what? My face was actully burning walking to my car yesterday. I used to dig Summer, but this one's killing me. Even the lake's too damn hot to enjoy the water.

If you put ice in the tank, make sure it's treated water. Put some tank water in its own ice cube tray ( or any suitable container) & freeze it.........Rich

Had the same problem a few days ago with a couple of 6's. I put a fan near the tanks blowing air over them and it took the temp down some. Also, left the hood open to dissipate some of the heat with the airstones really cranked up. That helps.

I have a spare air pump. I'll give that a try as well. I noticed keeping the tiny, feeder hood open helps too. And, I have a new 18" fan blowing toward it. Damn fish get better treatment than most people. This better bring me some good karma.

tell me about it ,you open your front door and it's like opening the door on you oven,yesterday i put hair wax in my hair to try something new and all the wax melted.i can't even go near the lake i burn so bad ya'lls would have to call me lobstermike.
