Would my bubble curtains be better on the side or back of the tank?

That's going to be your preference but I like it in the back (although I don't have one). ;D

No seriously.  Do you mean for viewing pleasures?  Because air bubbles in the back gives it more depth for some reason or another. *celebratesmiley*

Assuming you have a normal tank with a normal filter, you don't have to worry about aeration. Bubbles are just for show.
