trying to breed tank bred discus is much easier then to attemp on wild caught discus, what you need is the right conditions which they feel comfortable to breed. a couple of 1 1/2 to 2 years of age is ideal. keep them in a bare tank with a sponge filter and a heater[you will need to change the water very often, preferably daily] dimly lit in an area with least disturbance. you can also install a spray[rain pipe] to simulate the rainy season which they are most inclined to breed. place a pvc pipe or a spawning cone vertically in the tank[for reasons unknown they love to spawn on vertical surfaces, even on the heater]. water ph has to be lowered to 6.5-6.8[some breeders manage at lower ph] and maintained as it is. feed 2-3 times daily with live tubifex worms or bloodworms[cautious selection of source is important, especially tubifex worms], substitute those in frozen forms is possible. increase the temperature to 90-92f and begin changing 20-30 percent of water daily and 50 percent every 3-4 days if possible. the rest is up to the moods of the discus and readiness to set up a family. that is only the first half of breeding discus and the amount of efforts is foreseen. if you are ready for it, good luck in your attemp.
