The Hi Fin Lyretail is a fin variation of the Xiphophorus helleri. The male Hi Fin Lyretail Swordtail has a feathery, lyre-shaped tail and flowing fins, with an extension on the lower part of its tail, resembling a sword. The Hi Fin Lyretail Swordtail is an omnivore that will eat commercially prepared flaked foods and algae as well as freeze dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp.

Although they look like graceful and beautiful fish, which they are, they have some flaws. With males, their gonopodium is so elongated that it makes it difficult for them to reproduce. Although it is not impossible, it will take very long, and some males won’t be able to breed. I would only purchase these fish for show, not if you want to breed them. The females might be fine, just watch for the males.
