Giant Danio

The Giant Danio is a true "giant" among danios. It can grow to a maximum length of four inches and is an excellent schooling fish in larger community aquariums. The Giant Danio is also a very attractive fish with captivating blue coloration. Its gold spots and lines intensify the blue-green background of this fish.
Because the Giant Danio is such an active fish, it requires a large aquarium with ample swimming room. A hood should always be installed on the aquarium housing these fish, as they like to jump. Giant Danios should be kept in a group consisting of five or more fish.
An egg layer, the Giant Danio is stimulated to spawn by sunlight. After roughly 300 eggs are produced, hatching occurs within 36 hours. Fry should be fed fine pieces of live foods.
Giant Danios are omnivores and should be fed a diet of flake foods with plenty of vegetable matter, as well as freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex.

A few days ago i bought this fish at Petsmart because I have kept danios in my four years of aquarium experience, but I needed them to be bigger due to the fact in the same tank I keep two rather large Bala Sharks. While they were acclimating they jumped around inside the bag! When I let them go the swam swiftly across the aquarium in thier group of four. please when you buy these keep the tank light off for the rest of the day because these fish when you first get them are very scared and if you so much as walk my the tank they hide it the plants or scatter and try to jump out of the tank. Surprisingly one of them was almost successful! I put four stars for overall because their color is normal nothing really stands out on these fish in my opinion.
I put four stars for easy to keep because they need lots of plants and open swimming space. I put five stars for purchase again because they are great little fish and fun to watch! Hope this helps!

Giant Danios are very active and constantly swimming from one end of the aquarium to the other, almost shark-like. They can be somewhat bothersome to tank mates, but mine usually only bother other fish when they’re stressed or spooked (when this happens they will also jump.) If fed a proper diet, their colors are really beautiful. They seem to do a lot better if kept in a small school of their own species. My Giant Danios have been pretty long lived- one just passed away (he was four) and another four-year-old is very healthy. Remember to cover your aquarium if you plan on keeping these fish!
Giant Danios are great fish. I have one that was kept in a small tank before I found him, so he has a hunch back, but doesn’t let it stop him from doing anything. He is about 3 1/2 inches long(wonder how much bigger he’d be if he was straightened out lol) I also have a younger, smaller Giant Danio and the big ones treat him fine. They are very active and very hardy. At feeding time they jump out of the water sometimes.
