With global warming and other man-made damages such as sewage, fishing and pollution causing corals to die-off, scientist were surprise to see that there is a chance a few coral specimen might avoid extinction.

Israeli scientists took some hard-shelled corals and put them into acidic water 10x what it is currently (assuming what the water quality will be like in 150 years!) and see what would happen. It turns out that while they lost their skeleton, they adapted and survived as soft-bodied polyps.

This is pretty amazing as it shows while how delicate our corals reefs are, Mother Nature always finds a way to survive.
