Pseudomugil Rainbow

Pseudomugil Rainbowfish are schooling fish, with the males being larger than the females and having a longer first dorsal fin. Rainbowfish are known for their characteristic large eyes, black or silver band that runs through the middle scale rows, deeply forked mouth, and two dorsal fins.

This moderately aggressive fish is best housed in a planted aquarium with plenty of space to swim. Pseudomugil Rainbows should have a gravel substrate; the colors of this fish may intensify if a darker colored gravel is used.

Pseudomugil sp. spawns on fine-leaved plants or over moss. The fry will hatch two to three weeks after spawning and should be fed fresh live foods such as brine shrimp. Morning sunlight directed into the aquarium may trigger spawning.

Although Pseudomugil Rainbows have large mouths, their throats tend to be narrow. Pseudomugil Rainbowfish are omnivores but prefer fresh live foods.
