Axelrodi Rainbow

The Axelrodi Rainbow, or Lake Tebera Rainbow, is a peaceful, schooling fish that shows its best colors in sunlight. Rainbowfish are known for their characteristic large eyes, black or silver band that runs through the middle scale rows, deeply forked mouth, and two dorsal fins.

The aquarium for a Melanotaenia herbertaxelrodi should have plants in bunches with open water in the middle of the aquarium. A dark colored gravel substrate may intensify the Axlerodi Rainbow's colors.

An egg layer, the Axelrodi Rainbow spawns over moss with the fry hatching after about seven days. The fry should be fed small live foods such as brine shrimp. Morning sunlight may trigger spawning.

Although Axelrodi Rainbow have large mouths, their throats tend to be narrow. Small pieces of foods such as prepared flake, frozen, and live foods should be fed.
