To much food

My son tipped half a tub of food into his little tank by mistake i have transfered the 3 small goldfish into a bucket i use for water change and i have added the filter etc to avoid it drying out......can i swap the filter back over to the tank once it has been cleaned and will the goldfish suvive for 24hours in the bucket with out it whilst the tank re-cycles so to speak....cheers

I would have left the fish in there while cleaning it out myself. Goldfish are generally very messy anyway.

They should be OK in a bucket for 24hrs though, even without a filter. Just make sure the water has been dechlorinated.

I take it he tipped the container of food up and tapped it to get the food out. That is the wrong way. Always take a pinch of food from the container with your fingers and add it to the tank, never try to do it by sprinkling from the pot.
