I don't think this question relates specifically to goldfish, but since that's what I have & am looking at, I thought I'd post it here.
I'm looking at getting a calico butterfly tail that, in my opinion, is absolutely gorgeous, but, in at least one eye, if not both, his/her iris is red. Not like a pooling of blood, more like permanent red eye. The markings are such that there are black patches that cross over the eyes.
So my question is, is this normal when the surrounding tissue is black, or is this a flaw that will make the fish more likely to be ill, or is the fish partially blind? As far as aesthetics, it doesn't bother me in the least. My concern is bringing a handicapped fish into my community.
Thanks for helping.
