I threw one of the live mussels we were having for dinner last night into the tank thinking the puffers would get some good beak trimming as they chewed through the shell to get to the meat. Oddly enough they didn't really chew on it for long and are just ignoring it now. Even more oddly, the thing is still alive and kicking after having been in the tank for almost 24 hours now. Gonna ride this one out and see where it goes...

Heh heh, I see those a lot at the restaurant I work at and always wonder if they would survive in my tank;) One time I threw a baby steamer clam in my tank after I bought it at the grocery store (fresh - not frozen) and it seemed to live a couple days - it was upright and not "collapsed" so I assumed it was still alive  . Eventually I took a hammer to it so the puffers could eat it.

I'll be interested in seeing if your mussel survives. I've always wondered about it since we have live PEI mussels we steam at work for someone's dinner :D
