I have ordered Discus (uh ohhh!!!)

I have ordered 6 Discus but I am unsure if my fish will be ok with them I have some blue and yellow bossiman Rainbows and 2 Clown Loach will they be a threat to the discus or will they be ok.

Also do you have to have an RO unit in your tank.

Is there any tips you can give me on keeping Discus as no one round my area knows much about them.

Discus need really good water. a RO/DI unit would be best. Also the are really slow eaters. Any fish that eats quickly would not be a good tankmates.

I heard one account of loaches sucking the slime coating of a discus other than that no problems

clown loaches are one of the fish they say you can put with discus. i have only heard of plecos sucking on their slime coat.

how big is your tank, btw?

and i think your problem will be the rainbows. thier fast moving, large, finicky things that will most likely stress the discus to death.
R/O water can be bought at any pet store too. i personally dont use it yet, but i plan to soon. regular water changes are a must, at least once a week if nothing else. and they should be a 50% water change while thier so young. twice a week would be best.

In the cases of fish sucking the slime coat offf it happen when the sucking fish is starving due to lack of food. It wont happen if the sucker fish are well fed.

My tank is 350 litres with 2 filters a ehiem 2229 wet/dry and a fluval 305.
All my water checks are fine.

In a 90G tank I would do your Discus and you Loaches (maybe get one more loach) and leave it at that till you get the Discus settled in.

Only thing i'd be concerned about is the activity level of the rainbows...but i do think it can work.

As for RO....no you don't NEED it, its always nice to have access to it though.

At my lfs they have a HUGE tank probably about 500gallons with discus and rainbows, its planted and it looks absoultly beautiful!

I got rid of the rainbows and I have bought some discus they look really good I am really pleased.
