how tall does a clown knife get?

i know a clown knife can get up to 3 feet long, but how tall do they get? i am building a tank 2x3x7 and was wondering if that would be tall enough. also, should i put real plants in it or fake ones? i have never done real ones before, would the extra trouble be worth it?

you want a tank large enough to accomodate the fish. figure they get to be 2-3' long -- big enough to allow him to swim around and turn around without hitting the glass every time.

Figure you need enough room for him to turn around as an adult... if he's 3' long, he won't be able to comfortably turn around in a 3' wide tank. Plus, he can't swim very far lengthwise, either. That's like keeping a neon tetra in something 3"longx2"tallx1.5"wide.... not a whole lot of room.

the biggest i could go would be 8 feet long 3 feet high and 4 feet wide.

That's probably good enough... I don't think the height tends to matter as much as length and width. Four feet wide is enough to turn around in at least.

How are you going to make a massive shelter for him?

probably slate siliconed together and floating plants, and lots of tall plants. can you guys all check out my thread in DIY? its called how do i build a tank? if you have any suggestions can you help me out on there?

Slate and silicone do not mix well. The slate isn't porus enough to let the silicone get a good hold.
