Sadly, a lot of fish stores sell non-aquatic plants. Then the beginning hobby aquarium keeper thinks they did something wrong, and many go back to buy another one to try again. I guess it makes a good way to get a repeat customer? HAHAHA!
That website link above has a section of commonly sold aquarium plants that are not aquatic. I keep a copy of the list handy whenever I go plant shopping.
It also shows what plants are the easy-to-grow varieties and which are more demanding as far as lighting/substrate/fertilizers.
