They should be at least a couple millimeters long at birth. If you're having trouble seeing them, they may not be there...a lot of female livebearers like turning around and eating the fry right after having them.
Yes, the livebearer fry should be perfectly visible and certainly longer than a "," I would have to say they should be about this long: ---- at birth, if not larger.
