filter media

I just bought a fluvial a206/207 for the 45 gallon tank im starting up. i plan on supplementing it with a HOB aquaclear that filters up to 30 gallons, i believe.

My question is about the filter media for the two filters, specifically the canister. Which media should i buy, how should i order it in the filter, etc.

What do you want the filter to do? I use bio balls (or bio media) in my canisters with a coarse sponge to filter the big stuff and use my HOB to filter the finer stuff.
