Equipment operation cost – heater
Hello; As a follow up to using a meter to record the cost of operating a filter I set it up to measure the consumption of a heater.
The tank in my house in a room near the living room and I keep the temperature of the tank roughly ten degrees F warmer than the ambient room temp. The meter indicated that the heater use around 134 watts at around 1.40 amps. I did note that the wattage and amps were not constant but varied as the heater cycles on and off.
I started the meter on 12/11/2012 and am reporting the results as of 12/24/1012. Thirteen days by my count. During this period the weather has been perhaps a bit milder than normal with only a few somewhat cold days and nights.
For the 13 days the cost was measured as $1.52 at a rate of 12 cents per kilowatt hour. The heater used 12.68 kWh.
