Do you know about Petco buy one get one free coupons?

#1
This came up in another thread but I figured that I would reinterate here in the deals section.

If you have a Petco in your area you are in luck!
Check out the back of the package of their plastic plants. They have "buy one fish get one free" coupons on the back. They are restricted to fresh water fish and you can only get three free fish per coupon. The free fish is one of equal or lessed value. The smaller plants only cost $2.49 and I've used them to get free fish that would noramly be $14.99. I could actually buy fish with these coupons and sell them to local fish stores for a profit! Oh, and I've got tons of plastic plants now, Heh heh.

Any other stores out there have deals like this? I keep hearing about "Big Al's" and "Pet Smart" which aren't in my area, but I don't know if they have coupons there.

After a month in my tank and numerous disease treatments you can't tell a Petco fish from a aquarium specialist store fish. Actually you just need to be very observant, most of the fish stores in an area all get their fish from the same wholesaler any way so they are pretty much the same stock. I usually show up on fish delivery day and buy the fish before they even hit the petco water. Heh heh.

i don't really care for the plastics myself maybe i'll give them to my lil cuz who's starting out with a 10 gal i got for him, but i'll check out my petco which closest one is about 20 minute drive, it'pretty smart getting them right out of the shipment, u do have to watch the fish carefully seeif there are signs of stress or diseases, i've gotten several fishes from my petsmart2miles away 1 false sae, 1pleco, several otos, and australian rainbows if there any sick i don't even bother with them, this petsmart i have a friend workin in there and e knows about fish and the manager for that department has been in fish keeping for over 20 years, he's even got two 1000+ gal ponds connected together by a small channel like creek he built himself i haven't seen it myself but he's showed me pics of them

but anyways my petsmart take pretty good care of their fish it's just when they're not there it's pretty bad especially when some customer says my pleco has been killing my fishes a week after i got all of them, and the employees just say ok well we got these
alge eaters that are safe(chinese algae eates)....

Petco gets most of their freshwater fish from Segrest Farms, a very reputable wholesaler that also supples Petland Discounts, and probably Petsmarts and others commercial chains.

The coupons are a very good deal provided you can pick out the healthy fish.<G> Petco prices, however, are not a good deal. Even with they buy one get one free, I can find pairs for cheaper at anohter LFS up the road.

my petco is sooo bad tho...they have dead/dying fish in almost every tank and it smells terrible

i saw a tank there where the fish are covered w/ich and asked them if they were selling fish out of that tank and the guy is like sure why not? i pointed out that they were obviously sick...and he just shrugs and says theres meds that people can buy for that and its no big deal...disgusting

as far as it most likely being the same stock, you probably right about that...i'm sure those poor fish are fine when they get there, but that store dosent even attempt to try to keep them healthy

Vyache--i think its cool you go thru the trouble of getting your petco fish healthy, yours probably isnt as bad as mine

i wish my petco wasnt so bad cuz that coupon sounds like a good deal

as it is now i just cant bring myself to buy anything from there anymore...i'd rather spend my money elsewhere

we dont have petcos here but at the petsmart here they leave the filters off alot for some reason and tons of hair algae grows in the gravel (i dont know if it just grows fast once they stop or what ive only seen it when filters are off) and it is carpet thick and then that same time they sold a guy 4 pacus for a 10 gallon saying they stay small and like to school

btw -the monster trucks are because tetra has a monster truck named firemouth i got some stickers for free at a LFS

my petco is the best in my opinion. their fish are never sick that ive seen and ive never gotten a sick one. the tanks are the cleanest ones ive seen around here. and their fish usually are bigger that they are supposed to get when they are full grown adults. the only bad thing is that they have a limited amount of fish to chose from. well at least i cant find any good fish that i really really want like SAE's or ottos and a whole lot more on my list of fish to get.

At first the fish lok like they are in good condition...but watch the livebearers at my local store..withing a week..they are sprinkled with ich, fins shut, shimmying like crazy(or sitting limp on the body cuz they have no energy to shimmy)

Getting em fro ma good supplier means nothing if you cant keep em alive.

I have one of those in the back of my stands cabinet....I wonder what i'll use it for?
