DIY Aquarium Stand Modification Possible?

I have a metal stand that could hold two aquariums, either 15(long) or 20(high) gallons (a 24" by 12" footprint).

Basicly I'm trying to put two 20" x 10" aquariums (standard 10 gallons) on a wooden platform that is 20" by 20" (they'd sit side by side) and put this wooden platform on top of the bottom shelf of the metal stand. The stand is the open type, where it only supports the outer edges of the (propperly sized) aquarium normally. I'm hoping that the wooden platform would give more support to the two tanks than just putting them directly on the stand and letting them 'hang off' the edges by 4 inches.

Anyone have any thoughts on this set-up?

for the price of a stand...15-25 dollars for a 10 gallon, i dont think its worth it. 20 gallons of water and 2 broken tanks costs more then the proper stand would. Personally I dont buy stands, if your handy, you can build one, or if you have a strong desk or table it would hold it its only about 100 pounds but its your call. I would have to vote no too.
