colour changing guppy?

Hi all! I've got a female guppy in a 4 gallon(ish) tank that's cleaned out twice a week, but her tail (which is normally yellow) keeps randomly turning blue! I've never heard of them doing this before, and I thought about stress, but wouldn't that make her go white or pale yellow? The one remaining fry is white with a yellowish tint and always has been, so I don't know if that provides any clues or if she just has some sort of crazy chameleon thing going on

Cool.. chameleon guppy! But srsly I hope nothing is wrong with it. I would think too that it would turn pale if it was stressed.

ooh! thanks for the fish identification! Moby (the fry) has just disappeared, so I guess we won't find ou tif it's genetic or not

Thanks, if i ever got lucky enough to get a guppy with that trait id breed them like crazy and then get a nice group of them established at every petstore i could get to. Its a very awesome and unique trait

Actually, there are plenty of other fish that change color with their moods or the decor, but not much in the livebearers.

If the fish senses something different in its environment or mood it might change color, often Oscars do it but in smaller tropical fish not so much.

I had a male who's tail would intensify occasionally. Normally it was just blue with odd tints of red, yellow and grey-black, but when it intesified, BAM, he was like a crazy lavalamp fish!
