Carbon use with UGF

i have a 20 g i think with an UGF without powerheads. it comes with two different pieces that attach to the top of to tubes. one for carbon and one without. do i need to use the carbon and what does it do?

Hello; The attachment with the carbon can be used but will load up before long and no longer absorbe anything. Then the other fitting may as well be used. I never bothered with the carbon attachments as they are only good for a short time. Carbon in a hang on the back filter can be baked in an oven form time to time and used again. I have not used carbon at all in my filters for some time.

Carbon helps a little, but not for that long. Most people only use carbon when they're removing medicine from their tanks.
