So I was tooling around the internet and came across a website about Discus. I read a "beginner" article about caring for discus and it said NOT to keep carbon in the filter as it may lead to disease. Has anyone ever heard of this? Why not? I don't usually use carbon, but I was just wondering.

Yes it is correct. Here are my Discus. I have lots of pictures!*thumbsups

Carbon, IMO, has no place in a tank unless you are taking out meds after a treatment. It is believed that the use of carbon takes out important nutrients from the water. Also has been linked to HITH.

Lose it.

Carbon is not bad for any fish, although you don't have to use it if you don't want to. I have a discus and angel tank with carbon in my canister filter, and all is well. Discus require such large amounts of water to be changed so often that carbon usually isn't necessary in their setups unless you just feel like using it.
