3 gallon tank

Recently our neighbor moved leaving us with a 3 gallon tank with three salt water fish. This is all knew to me. I panicked when water started to smell bad and got cloudy. I then disposed of water in tank and refilled with all new. I followed insructions for adding salt etc. One week later this is happening again, and I want to start them in a new tank. Would this be too harmful to them? What should I do? Help. This is a 3 gal. tank with a tetra filter, small heater and some gravel and a few shells.

You can't put three fish in a three gallon tank. That's your problem. I wouldn't even put one fish in a three gallon tank. What kind of fish are they?

Also, your tank may need to cycle. Was the tank filled with water when your neighbor gave it to you? Also, how long was the water out of the tank before you added new water?
