Description: Compatibility: Peaceful - Semi-aggressive Maximum Size: 3 Inches
Minimum Tank Size: 10 Gallons
Temperature: 80-84F
Diet: Omnivore
Level of care: Moderate
General Notes: This dwarf cichlid needs good water conditions to thrive as it is a more delicate species.
Sexed most often by their blue spangles and black spot on their side. If the spangles are inside the the black dot, it is most likely a male. Males tend to be larger than females, and females will sometimes have a pink belly. This all depending on their color and bloodlines, because of mass captive breeding, colors and ways of sexing may vary.

Pros: Extremely colorful peaceful community fish
Cons:

The male rams are significantly more colorful than are the females, and the intensity of color can be enhanced by feeding meaty foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.

The males will often flare their dorsal fin as can be seen here

When not flared, it folds back a bit as can be seen here

Pros: Beautiful, peaceful
Cons: Needs great water quality

Rams can be a beautiful fish if you provide excellent water quality (low nitrates). Be choosy about the ram you buy, as there are many low-quality rams on the market these days. Get the most colorful, healthy specimin you can find. They are prone to ich and fungal infections, and extremely sensitive to any kind of medicine. If you have to treat them, be careful what you use, and how much. Also, very sensitive to pH changes, and must be acclimated very carefully when you bring them home. If you see them breathing heavily, you know they\'re showing signs of shock.

Lovely little fish, very nice natured, got along with all my community fish, except the Clown Loach, the Loach picked on this lil guy, so he had to be fostered out. Would love to get more one day

Pros: peaceful, intelligent
Cons: finicky about water quality

These are intelligent fish like most cichlids. It took my rams about 2 months to adjust to the tank. I recomend a slow sinking food and blood worms. I would not recomend it to a beggining aquarist.

Blue Rams add lots of color to your tank. Also they are great fish to add to your community. I highly recommend this fish. It is great for anyone who wants to spice up their tank with some color.
