Compatibility: Peaceful, community Maximum Size: 5-6" Minimum Tank Size: 40g Temperature: 72-84F Diet: Omnivorous, tendency toward meaty foods Level of care: Easy General Notes:
The Coen rainbowfish is one natural color variation of the Melanotaenia trifasciata. This variation has a green body with orange to red fins. This variation is not as easy to find as the Goyder River rainbowfish. Males develop darker, more vibrant coloring and are much deeper bodied than the females. Coens are peaceful, active swimmers that prefer the middle and top levels of a tank. Colors seem to be best displayed in well planted tanks. As schooling fish, they should be kept in groups. Their diet should include some vegetable matter and they seem to have a liking of live foods. This fish is also sometimes referred to as a “Banded Rainbowfish,” which lacks the distinction of the specific color form.
